Pride is an indispensable attribute for any business owner. At its best it comes out in an owner’s satisfaction about delivering quality work and services, creating a positive reputation for their company, and most importantly driving profitability.
But I’ve met a lot of business owners who are held back by their pride. They get caught up in the ego gratification of being an owner even while their companies are struggling. They focus on the symbols of success instead of focusing on profit. And that means their pride is hurting their business and costing them money.
The whole point of running a business is profit. If you are not making a profit, it doesn’t matter how much revenue you have, how well respected you are in your community or how nice your car is. Your business is in trouble and that’s nothing to take pride in.
